Becoming sounds. With her work positioned at the borderline between visual art and sound art, she is rapidly gaining widespread acclaim. For this exhibition, Nakajima spent 6 weeks visiting the designed gallery space to add and to transform her work over time.

like sugoroku game playing with throwing a dice
like invisible hyphae growing here and there appearing in forms slowly
like things without names acquiring their own names

ShugoArts Weekend Gallery is pleased to present “becoming sounds” a solo exhibition by London-based artist Rie NAKAJIMA commencing Sunday, December 20.

Since moving to England 15 years ago, Nakajima has eventually focused her energies on creating rudimentary electronic objects that move and make sounds in almost primitive ways. She then assembles the objects like one might a miniature garden, and holds performances in which she guides the objects’ movements and sounds like a conductor. With her work positioned at the borderline between visual art and sound art, she is rapidly gaining widespread acclaim.
